The Azerbaijani champions were playing in the tournament group stages for the first time in their history after Ndlovu scored the goal to take them there earlier this year, however, they have been unable to pick up a win in a group consisting of Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Roma.
Now, following last night’s 4-0 defeat to the English Premier League champions, they have only one game left to play and don’t even stand a chance of dropping into the UEFA Europa League from the groups.
Ndlovu was unable to get himself into the game after his side ended up on the backfoot from the 19th-minute as the centre back, Rasad Sadiqov, was sent off for a supposed foul on Willian, with Eden Hazard converting the resulting penalty.
The Bafana Bafana international tried to cause problems for the Blues as the game went on, but a Willian brace and another penalty – taken by Cesc Fabregas, sealed their fate.
Qarabag now travel to Roma in Italy on December 5th to play their last UCL game of the season. South Africa will have no representatives in the knockout stages.
