Reyaad Pieterse: 7/10
He was solid between the sticks for Bafana. For the most part, he managed his defence well and made the necessary saves when called upon.
Siyanda Xulu: 7/10
The Bafana captain was solid in his right-back role, where he performed his defensive duties admirably, but he did not get forward to assist down the flanks in attack.
Taariq Fielies: 7/10
He was solid in his centre-back role and worked well with Madisha. He often broke up the Madagascar attack with numerous important tackles and interceptions. He was substituted late in the second half so that Bafana could add numbers up front.
Motjeka Madisha: 7/10
His partnership with Fielies in the centre-back pairing proved extremely difficult to penetrate. He read the game well and made some important tackles to stop the Madagascar attack.
Aubrey Modiba: 7/10
He defended well in his left-back role, but also added some much-needed numbers in attack down the left flank where he provided some dangerous balls into the box. He also came close to scoring in the second half when his 16-yard shot struck the crossbar.
Ryan Moon: 5/10
He was not at his best in the opening half down the right flank and was not really in game at all. In the second half, the technical team moved him into a more central attacking role, but he did not perform any better and was a let-down on the day.
Lebohang Maboe: 7/10
The attacking midfielder was at his best when running at the Madagascar defence. He created some decent scoring opportunities for his team-mates, though, and found himself in decent scoring chances as well, but his finishing let him down.
Siphesihle Ndlovu: 7/10
The central midfielder did well in his holding midfield role. He worked tirelessly in midfield and kept his side’s engine room ticking over. He made some crucial tackles and interceptions in the middle of the park to stop the Madagascan forwards.
Luther Singh: 5/10
He was Bafana’s most lively player in attack and caused numerous problems for the Madagascan defence with his pace and skill. He created some decent scoring chances for himself, but his finishing was extremely poor and he missed a penalty in the shoot-out.
Fortune Makaringe: 7/10
He was solid in his midfield role and led by example both on and off the ball. He created space for his team-mates with his passing and off-the-ball running. He also defended well from the front and was named the ‘man of the match’.
Gift Motupa: 5/10
He was never really in the game and saw very little of the ball. Consequently, he was substituted at the start of the second half due to his lack of threat in attack.
Abednigo Mosiatlhaga: 6/10
He did well when coming on in the second half and looked lively down the flanks, but his final pass was continuously poor.
Lyle Voster: N/A
He came on in the 85th minute as Bafana tried to add numbers upfront, but he did not have enough time to make an impact on the game.
Jamie Webber: N/A
He came on in the 85th minute as Bafana tried to add numbers up front, but was not allowed enough time to make a difference. He did, however, miss his penalty in the shootout.
