Zungu’s Message To Baxter…
Bongani Zungu has issued a message to Bafana Bafana’s Stuart Baxter as he nears a return to action in France.
The 26-year-old is expected to be back in the Amiens’ squad this coming weekend for the first time since sustaining a serious injury in August, and his return to action could have come at the perfect time for Baxter.
With the coach looking to select his squad for clash with Libya on March 24 – he will name it early next week – Zungu knows that he is by no means guaranteed a place in the side, but is hoping that he gets the chance to play his part in helping the side progress to the African Cup of Nations.
Speaking to the Siya crew this week, the former Mamelodi Sundowns man said, “I feel good and I’m happy that I got to play for the second team because it’s been a while! My coach here in Amiens was very impressed with how I did, so I should now be able to play in Ligue 1 against Nimes this coming weekend.
“Look, I would love to help Bafana and I play a role in helping Bafana get a spot at the AFCON, but I know that I have to play well here in France first and show Coach Baxter that I'm fit and ready to play in the game against Libya before he can look at selecting me.”
Meanwhile, at club level, Zungu’s Amiens are flirting dangerously with relegation at the bottom of Ligue 1, and his return to action is set to give them a big boost as they look to secure their place in the French top-flight next season.
