Banyana Banyana’s impressive victory over Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, saw the Women’s National team shoot to the top of their group.
South Africa are currently topping Group B of the Africa Women’s Cup Of Nations competition, after a 7-1 win over their African rivals.
A win or a draw in their final match against Zambia next week will see the women’s national team book their spot in the semi-finals of the competition.
Speaking to the South African Football Association’s website, Banyama midfielder, Refiloe Jane says that her side wanted to send a message out to their next opponents, although they are aware that Zambia will be no pushovers.
“The win gives us some confidence, looking at the margin that we won by and it also sends a message to the other teams, because when we play we want to send a message to the teams that we are going to play. It is a good win for us, going into the third game, six points and a lot of goals, so it is good for the team and hopefully we can finish off in the following game.”
“We are expecting a very good game, a very right tone, looking at the history, we know that Zambia aren’t easy to beat, they still stand a chance of qualifying for the next round, so it is a do or die, we need to give it our all and stay focused, leaving no stone unturned,” she told SAFA.
