Serero Steps Closer To The Big Leagues…
Thulani Serero has had the busiest season of his career for Vitesse in 2018/19, and it looks like he may well take a step up into the UEFA Europa League next season…
After completing 90 minutes of Vitesse’s 3-0 playoff win over Groningen on Tuesday night, ‘Cream’ has now played 2885+ minutes over 33 games for his club this season, the most he’s ever played in a single campaign at any of the team’s he’s been at.
Serero grabbed an early assist to set up Martin Ødegaard on the way to beating their opponents 4-2 on aggregate, and they are now just two games away from booking their spot in European competition for the 2019/20 season.
Vitesse face FC Utrecht over two legs – the first of which is on Friday night – as they look to secure their place in the UEL, and Serero will be looking to put in another solid performance to continue where he left off against Groningen.
The 29-year-old had the best pass completion rate of any player on the field on Tuesday (93%), and made more accurate passes than any of his teammates (38), making four tackles and two interceptions as he completed the game with 56 touches.
Serero will no doubt be keen to end his season on a high with a UEL ticket booked before he jets out to Egypt for the 2019 African Cup of Nations, with Stuart Baxter having sung his praises when naming his provisional squad on Tuesday afternoon.
