Double Captaincy Joy After Chiefs Exit

Siyanda Xulu’s hard work is paying off for both club and country, with the PSL Award winner being given the captain’s armband for Martizburg United and Bafana Bafana.
It was announced last week that the 26-year-old had been handed the national team captaincy for the COSAFA Cup by Stuart Baxter as they prepare for their quarterfinal this afternoon.
Xulu had a torrid time at Kaizer Chiefs when the Amakhosi brought him back to South Africa from a spell in Russia, but now – during his first season with the Team of Choice – he’s an award winner and one of the most in-form players in the country.
The centre back was unable to help Maritzburg to a trophy in 2017/18, although his performances did play a role in them achieving their highest Absa Premiership finish of all time, as well as their first ever cup final.
Having joined from Chiefs at the start of the season, Xulu was put alongside club captain, Bevan Fransman, although will now replace him as Davids’ skipper following the veteran’s exit at the end of this month.
Xulu will start at the heart of Baxter’s defence against Madagascar later today at 15h00.
