SAFA’s Dolly Update: Bafana Replacement Or Not?
With Keagan Dolly unable to make it to the African Cup of Nations due to injury, questions have been asked about whether a replacement will be called – though it appears that won’t happen.
The talented Montpellier man was unluckily ruled out of the 2019 AFCON after picking up a groin injury that will rule him out for around three weeks, with Stuart Baxter saying before his scans that they were wary of having a player who wouldn’t be available.
Since it was confirmed that Dolly would not be able to be part of the squad that travels to Egypt, there has been talk of whether or not Baxter will bring another player into camp before selecting his final squad as he cuts down the preliminary side to just 23 players.
Dominic Chimhavi, the South African Football Association’s Head of Communications, has suggested that the head coach is more likely to just pick from the pool of players that he already has with him in Bafana camp at present, telling the Siya crew, “He is unlikely to call any replacement considering the squad still needs to be reduced.”
Bafana will once again train at Steyn City this afternoon as Baxter continues to prepare his troops and try and figure out which 23 will make it onto the plane to Cairo.
