Goals from Hlatshwayo and Thulani Serero handed Shakes Mashaba's side a 2-1 win over Senegal at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Bafana went top temporarily with the win, but Burkina Faso's victory over Cape Verde pushed the South Africans to second spot.

"It was a tough game. We knew it will be tough but we did our best to win it," Hlatshwayo told journalists.

"As I said before the game we wanted to finish the year on top of our group and we have achieved that.

"We know there is still a long way to go but it was a game we had to win."
