Head Coach, Stuart Baxter, finally has his full 25-man squad in the Bafana Bafana camp after the arrival of two SuperSport United players.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ Hlompho Kekana was withdrawn from the Bafana camp this weekend, due to the player still currently nursing an in injury and was subsequently replaced by his teammate, Tiyani Mabunda.
This comes following Kamohelo Mokotjo’s withdrawal from the squad, which saw Lebogang Phiri being called in his place.
Despite the association confirming injuries to seven of the players currently in the Bafana camp, indications are that Baxter will plan around his contingent and select players who are currently in camp.
“I would have loved to have a full fit squad ahead of travelling to Nigeria but you don’t get a perfect situation in football. But there are no excuses and we are raring to go,’ Baxter said yesterday as quoted on SAFA’s official website.
The national team reported to camp on Sunday, June 04, however, without SuperSport’s Dean Furman and Ronwen Williams, who were still currently away on club duty in Congo.
The duo has since reported to camp, with the Englishman having his full contingent present for final preparations before jetting off to Nigeria tomorrow, June 07.
South Africa will face Nigeria in the opening encounter of the Africa Cup Of Nations qualifiers on Sunday, June 10 and it remains to be seen whether the likes of Lebogang Manyama and Tokelo Rantie will recover in time to be available for selection.
