There are a number of notable absentees from the latest Bafana Bafana squad, which was announced by coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba today.
Earlier today at SAFA House in Johannesburg, Mashaba announced the Bafana squad that he will use for the opening match of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Bafana have been drawn in group D along with Burkina Faso, Senegal and Cape Verde, with the first game being against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on 8 October.
Andile Jali is among the list of players omitted, after being in the Bafana side that played in the team’s most recent games against Mauritania and Egypt, as the former Orlando Pirates star is out with injury.
The other players that were in the squad last time, and have been dropped for the World Cup qualifiers for various reasons include Reyaad Pieterse, Sifiso Hlanti, Clayton Daniels, Denwin Farmer, Deolin Mekoa, Mandla Masango, Prince Nxumalo and Thapelo Morena.
Ajax Cape Town's Rivaldo Coetzee has been called up again, after he was withdrawn previously due to sickness.
