Soccer Laduma rates the individual performances of the Bafana Bafana players, following their 1-0 win over Costa Rica.
Itumeleng Khune: 6
Made a couple clearances in the first half, while he redeemed himself with a good save to deny Campbell in the opening exchanges. Although, his game was interrupted by problems with his knee, which he seemed to shrug off.
Anele Ngcongca: 6
Looked composed when in possession, although he struggled to contain Bryan Oviedo for most of the first half. However Ngcongca managed to get the better of his opposing winger in the second half and hardly gave Oviedo space on the ball to cross.
Rivaldo Coetzee: 6
Coetzee had his hands full with Marco Ureno, who's pace troubled the central defensive pairing. Although he did improve in the second half, as Bafana were pegged back in their own half for most of the second stanza.
Erick Mathoho: 6
Did well whenever Bafana had possession of the ball and was confident with bringing the ball out from the back but also struggled with Ureno's pace. While, his performance did improve in the second half, as he contributed with a couple important blocks.
Mosa Lebusa: 6.5
Certainly impressed in the first half on his debut, he was not afraid to add numbers to the attack down the left flank, while he was solid defensively throughout his 66-minute display. Lebusa can be proud of his display.
Mandla Masango: 6
Started off lively and was keen on taking on his man down the right flank but struggled to maintain that showing in the second half.
Andile Jali: 7.5
Bafana's best player on the pitch, Jali put in a fine individual effort in the middle of the park, he had a couple surging runs which troubled the Costa Rican defence and he popped up with a wonderful finish for the only goal of the game. While his defensive effort didn't go unnoticed, as he put in a few tackles and popped up with key interceptions.
Bongani Zungu: 7
Another player who impressed on the night, never panicked when he was in possession of the ball, he linked up with Jali and Serero on numerous occasions. While, he also put in a couple crunching tackles in the middle of the park.
Thulani Serero: 7
The Ajax Amsterdam man was a constant threat in the final third, his combination with Jali was key throughout the match, as they also combined for the only goal of the game. Although Serero did squander a chance in the first half, blazing over from inside the area.
George Lebese: 6
Not the best of games for the Kaizer Chiefs winger, he had a few encouraging touches in the early stages of the first half but that was as good as it got for the player and he was eventually replaced in the 77th minute.
Sibusiso Vilakazi: 6
Deployed as the striker for Bafana, Vilakazi proved to be a handful for the Costa Rica defence in the first half, he didn't have that many chances at goal but he continued to work tirelessly for the side.
Mzikayise Mashaba: 6
Replaced the impressive Lebusa in the 69th minute but struggled to contain Joel Campbell down the left flank, although the Costa Rican winger struggled with his crossing.
Kamohelo Mokotjo: 6
Brought on to stabalise the midfield and to slow the game down, although he hardly had a touch of the ball due to the home side's dominance in the second half.
Thulani Hlatshwayo: 6
Brought on for the final 15 minutes, as Mashaba looked to shut up shop and certainly managed to hold his own against the Costa Rica attack.
Ayanda Patosi: NA
Was not on the field long enough to receive a rating.
