Bafana Bafana Hopeful For Itumeleng Khune Return
The Bafana Bafana team medics said that the association remains hopeful that Itumeleng Khune will be available for selection on Friday.
The Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper picked up a facial injury during the Soweto giants’ Telkom Knockout clash against Chippa United on Sunday, with Chiefs revealing yesterday that Khune was set to see a specialist as it is believed that the player fractured a bone in his face.
Khune was set to report to camp with the national team, however, due to his current injury, the question of whether he will be available on Friday is still up in the air.
According to the Bafana team doctor, Thulani Ngwenya, there is some positivity regarding the national team’s number one goalkeeper’s injury, however, an official confirmation about his availability will only be made in the coming days.
“In such situations, you can’t be 100 percent sure but we all remain hopeful and positive. That is all we can wish for at the moment,” Ngwenya said on the South African Football Association’s official website.
Bafana will play two must-win 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures against Senegal on November 10 and November 14 and it remains to be seen whether Khune will be fit enough for the first encounter this Friday.
