Bafana’s Latest FIFA Ranking Revealed

Bafana Bafana Have Fallen Two Places In The FIFA Rankings This Month

By Soccer Laduma - Jun 07, 2018 04:14 PM
Bafana Bafana’s latest FIFA ranking has been revealed, and it doesn’t make pretty reading for Stuart Baxter and his players.

This week’s 4-1 win over Namibia gave South Africa some points in the rankings, although the amount was nominal due to the fact that the tournament is only classed as a friendly. They also were helped by the fact that they lost to Mauritius just a few days earlier, but the team managed some points because it ended as a draw after 90 minutes.

With FIFA releasing the June rankings today, Baxter has seen his side slip from 72nd in the world to 74th, although they remain unchanged in the continent as they stay as Africa’s 15th-ranked nation.

Meanwhile, this month’s worst mover was Palestine as they dropped 13 places to 96th, while Kuwait had a good month – moving up 16 places to 60th in the world.

Bafana have a good opportunity to aid their rankings in the coming months as they prepare for competitive action in their African Cup of Nations qualifiers, and a win over Botswana on Friday in the COSAFA Cup wouldn’t harm their cause either.

Pathetic. All the best teams in Africa possess players who perform consistently at the highest levels overseas. But SA only have local players who are tactically and technically underdeveloped and overhyped. We also have to stop calling 23 and 24 year old players as young. In europe ....a player of that age is fully developed and ready for the big stage. Too many boardroom battles in SAFA and too little attention paid to developing young kids into great young South African footballers.
