Bafana Assemble In Camp, Preparations Underway
The South African national team assembled in camp yesterday, October 01, with Head Coach Stuart Baxter set to begin preparations for Bafana Bafana’s must-win encounter.
It was confirmed on Sunday that defender, Erick Mathoho, was withdrawn from the national team setup, following a decision made by FIFA with regards to his red card booking, where the Kaizer Chiefs man is set to face an extra two-game ban and pay a fine of around R70 000.
The association subsequently confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns’ Motjeka Madisha received a call-up to the national team squad to replace Mathoho.
Bafana assembled in camp on Sunday, October 01, as they look to gear up for the national team’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter against Burkina Faso on Saturday, October 07.
After suffering back-to-back defeats against Cape Verde, Bafana’s chances of qualifying for the prestigious tournament has lessened to a great extent, which means that the national team will have to get three out of three wins should they want to keep the dream alive.
Following the encounter against Burkina this weekend, Head Coach Baxter’s side will need to face Senegal twice, after FIFA’s decision to replay the first qualifying encounter against the Senegalese side which took place last year, November.
Bafana will host Burkina Faso at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, October 07, with the match scheduled to get underway at 15h00.
