On Wits winning the PSL title
I know it’s been said a lot of times already, so, at the risk of sounding like a stuck record, let me personally congratulate Bidvest Wits for winning the league. Their coach, Gavin Hunt, has always been good at blending youth with experience and he did that with aplomb this season. Look at players like Sifiso Hlanti and Phakamani Mahlambi to name but two. They have already got Bafana Bafana call-ups and that’s encouraging. They also have the experience of the likes of Daine Klate, Elias Pelembe, Siboniso Gaxa and Bongani Khumalo. All these guys have won the league before. Gavin has been very good at unearthing young talent and has blended them well with his experienced campaigners. As a South African coach, we should all be proud of his achievements.
On stadium attendance & Supporters Club’s Vision 2017
I think we are well on course with our Vision 2017. If one compares this season’s attendance figures and those of last season (2015/16), there’s a difference. The numbers are growing and it’s all thanks to the noise we’re making as Supporters Club.
On Sundowns in the CAF Champions League
Mamelodi Sundowns have been doing well in Africa since they won the Champions League and the Super Cup. They went to DR Congo and came back with maximum points last week. They now have all the needed experience to conquer Africa once again. I don’t see any African team beating Sundowns here in South Africa. I mean, if they can go to DR Congo and beat AS Vita, then who will beat them here? I wish them all the best of luck and I know that they will make the nation proud.
On Stuart Baxter & Bafana Bafana squad
Well, firstly, I think SAFA has made the right decision by employing Stuart Baxter as the Bafana head coach. He is results-orientated and that is exactly what we need now. Anyone would agree with me when I say we need to win and qualify for major tournaments for us to grow as a footballing nation. He has selected a good group of players. The likes of Lebogang Manyama and Aubrey Ngoma did well this season and he rewarded them with call-ups. That is what we want to see… players being selected on merit.
‘Til next time
