Amstel Predictor

Survival Of The Fittest Continues

Final Round of the Amstel Predictor sees all teams take to the field in exciting league clashes in this final round of PSL action.

All eyes will be on the action taking place at the bottom of the league as the survival to remain in top flight continues. 16th placed University of Pretoria host Golden Arrows at the Tuks Stadium. Arrows are currently fighting to secure their top 8 position as they are placed in 8th spot and are on level points with the Buccaneers in 7th. The team will be in high spirits after their win last week against Jomo’s troops. Tuks will be hoping to have home ground advantage and snatch the 3 points to take 15th position to avoid automatic relegation. They managed to take away a point from their last fixture against Polokwane City.

Olen Park will be ablaze as Jomo Cosmos host fellow relegation threatened side Maritzburg United. With one point separating the 14th and 15th placed teams, Cosmos will be seeking to contain their spot out of the play-offs. The home team lost their previous encounter against Arrows and will not want to slip up in this last game of the season. However, the Team of Choice will not take it lying down as they too will be looking to remain in the PSL and move away from 15th spot. The confidence will be high amongst the players after their win at home against Ajax Cape Town.

The middle of the league table also has some interesting encounters as there are teams gunning to finish in the top 8. SuperSport United travel to the Orlando Stadium as they take on 7th placed Orlando Pirates. The Buccaneers lost 3 points in their previous league fixture against Chippa United which resulted in them losing their 6th spot on the log. However, the team will be boosting in confidence after securing a spot in the Nedbank Cup final. SuperSport are placed in 9th, a point behind Arrows. Baxter’s men will be hoping to get all 3 points as they will want to keep their top 8 dreams alive.

Chippa United have had a great season this year with a possible finish in the top 8. The team will be away at the FNB Stadium to take on the Glamour Boys, Chiefs. After just slaying one of the Soweto Giants, they will be looking to upset the Black and Gold outfit who have had a string of draws this season. Komphela’s men have not been on the right track this time around, losing out on retaining their league title. This encounter will determine whether the Chilli Boys will be able to make their first MTN 8 appearance.

With 5 points between Bloemfontein Celtic and Polokwane City, the clash will take place at the Dr Molemela Stadium. The home team have no chances of making a top 8 finish this season and will want to secure a last game win for the Siwelele faithful. The Polokwane outfit will also have nothing to play for as they will remain in 13th spot, out of relegation pressure.

Mpumalanga Black Aces will host Ea Lla Koto who are in 11th place and also have no chance to make a top 8 finish. On the other hand, the home team have the MTN 8 position in the palm of their hands and will look to finish off the season in style.

2nd placed Bidvest Wits have had a great season unfortunately a few slip ups cost the team the league. Gavin Hunt will be proud of the performances of his team and will want a win  against Ajax Cape Town in this away encounter after they lost out to log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in their previous clash. The home team also suffered a defeat in Pietermaritzburg and will look to have home ground advantage as they will want to finish in the highest position possible.

League champions Mamelodi Sundowns will host 3rd placed Platinum Stars at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Stars will be looking to secure their third place spot as they are a point ahead of Kaizer Chiefs in fourth. The champions will also look to snatch the three points on offer or at least a point to increase their record win.
