Guinea, Mali's Fate To Be Decided By A Draw Of Lots

Africa Cup of Nations - Group D

Result: Guinea 1-1 Mali

Date: 28 January 2015

Venue: Estadio de Mongomo

Guinea and Mali's fate will be decided by a draw lots, after they played out to a 1-1 draw in their final Group D clash.

Guinea went ahead in the 13th minute, courtesy of a cheecky penalty from Kevin Constant, after Wague was ajudged to have handled the ball in the box.

Mali were presented with the opportunity to level matters minutes later from the penalty spot, however Seydou Keita's penalty was saved by Yattara.

Modibo Maigo nearly leveled matters for Mali in the 35th minute, the the striker cut in from the right flank before firing a stinging effort at goal, which was tipped over by Yattara.

However, Mali managed to draw themselves levels shortly after the halftime break, as an un-marked Maiga headed home at the back post.

Wague was presented with an opportunity to give Mali the lead in the 74th minute, but the defender failed to steer his header on target from close range.

However, neither side could break the deadlock and the final spot for the last eight will be decided by a draw of lots on Thursday, as Guinea and Mali have identical records in the group stages.

Drawing of the lots is simply picking a name out of a hat and the name chosen will progress into the quarterfinals.

Here's how they lined up:

Guinea: N. Yattara, M. Yattara, Sylla, Camara, Traore, Constant, Conte, Cisse, Keita, Fofana, Sankoh

Mali: Berthe, Tamboura,Wague, Salif, Drissa, Sylla, Seydou Keita, N'Diaye, Diaby, Maiga, Mustapha
