Baxter On Stopping 'Unbelievable' Salah

Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter has revealed what he told his players to keep Egypt star Mohamed Salah quiet during their Africa Cup of Nations last 16 tie.

Bafana advanced to the quarter-finals as Thembinkosi Lorch's late goal secured a 1-0 win over the Pharaohs at the Cairo International Stadium.

One of the keys to defeating Egypt was silencing Salah, who had netted two goals in three group stages games for the hosts.

Baxter reveals they had to presser higher up the pitch and stop the Liverpool star from getting the ball in free spaces.

"The are two or three things we had to do, press higher up the field and stop the delivery," Baxter said, according to SuperSport TV.

"If we couldn't stop that, we had to screen in front of him (Salah) and when he got the ball, get some support quickly to him and make sure he runs into a lot of traffic and not into free space."

"The players did really well. Salah is an unbelievable player. We knew if he got the goals, we could be going back to Johannesburg, but they did very well and he didn't."
