Baxter On Bafana Future: ‘If The Answer Is No...’
Stuart Baxter says he needs to think about his future with Bafana Bafana, admitting that he could ‘step aside’.
Bafana returned to the country this weekend after being knocked out of the African Cup of a Nations by Nigeria in the quarterfinal - making it their best performance at an AFCON off SA shores since 2002.
Bafana scraped through the group stages of the tournament before securing a famous victory over the hosts, Egypt, and the jury is out on whether the coach will remain in charge.
Speaking to the media on his arrival back in South Africa yesterday, Baxter said, “It has been a long campaign, I’ll go back to Sweden for a few days and look at myself and say, ‘Do you really think, given the situation, you can take the team forward?’
“If the answer is ‘no’ I will step aside, and if it’s ‘yes’ then I will speak to my employer and if they think the same, I will get on with the job.”
Baxter has been in the job since 2017.
