Bafana’s AFCON Prep Gains Another Leg…
Bafana Bafana have managed to secure another friendly game before the Africa Cup of Nations to follow on from their clash against Ghana on June 15th.
Stuart Baxter has been eager to set up pre-tournament games for his side as Bafana prepare for the AFCON in Egypt at the end of the month, with the team already in camp and going through rigorous training sessions in preparation for the showpiece event.
The South African side will jet out to Dubai early next week where they will continue putting in their groundwork before facing the Black Stars in that leg of the camp after Baxter has named his 23-man final squad that will be heading to Cairo to represent the country.
Now, with the AFCON just a couple of weeks away, the Brit has said that the South African Football Association has managed to set up a friendly game against Angola once they touch down in Cairo, as a final warmup before facing Ivory Coast on June 24th.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Baxter said, “We’re going to play Ghana on the 15th, and we’re going to play Angola in Egypt on the 19th. That’s the one that we can get, so I’m taking it. We need more than two games really, but that’s what we can get.”
Baxter is expected to name his final squad at some point this weekend, potentially on Sunday.
