Booth Calls Time On His Career

After 18 years in the game, former Bafana Bafana international, Matthew Booth, has decided to call time on his career and hang up his boots.

The 37-year-old, who started his life as a footballer back in 1994 when he joined Cape Town Spurs, was reportedly offered a new deal by Wits, but decided that it was time to call it a day.

Booth, whose name has rung through the stands of South African football stadia for years, has spent time in Mzansi, England and Russia over the course of his career, winning two PSL titles along the way.

However, after coming so close to a Nedbank Cup victory last season, it seems that ‘Boooooooth’ will not be adding to his trophy cabinet.

Paul Mitchell, the managing director of Siyavuma Sports Group, confirmed the news saying, " It's been an absolute pleasure to work with Matthew during the past few years and we will continue to work with him on the next phase of his career.

“Matthew has been the ultimate professional throughout his career and should be a role model to the youngsters out there who want achieve in the game.

“I am sure we will still see a lot of Matthew within the local game as he is passionate about youth development and he has some great ideas on how things can improve locally for the better.”

The Siya crew wants to wish Booth well in whatever his future endeavours may be, and thank him for all that he’s done for South African football.
