With four goals in six games to his name for Kaizer Chiefs, Mandla Masango is finally showing the kind of top form that convinced former Amakhosi coach, Muhsin Ertugral, to sign him in 2007.
So talented Masango was as a teenager, Ertugral saw qualities that reminded him of the maverick genius of Jabu ‘Pule’ Mahlangu.
In edition 886 of Soccer Laduma, the Turkish coach points out the qualities he saw which prompted him to bring ‘Spikiri’ to Naturena.
He said, “I remember speaking to Bobby Motaung about the boy because he was impressive. His ability to read and change the game was unbelievable. He could create spaces as well as bravely take on defenders, as young as he was. He reminded me of Jabu (Pule) Mahlangu....that’s why I went to Bobby and Mr Kaizer (Motaung) to ask them to bring the boy to Chiefs. I remember my first words to them were, ‘I think I have found another talent like Jabu.’”
The talented right winger will have another chance to add to his flourishing reputation when Chiefs take on Platinum Stars tonight in Rustenburg. The action gets underway from 19h30.
