SuperSport United midfielder, Morne Nel, impressed during a recent training stint with Tottenham Hotspur, however will not be joining the club in the near future.
The 18-year-old midfield man recently returned from his second training spell with Spurs after he first visited in 2013, and is said to have impressed the club’s coaches once again.
Spurs currently have first option on the former Old Mutual man, however SuperSport’s CEO, Stan Matthews, says that they have no intention of taking the player right now.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Matthews said, “Look, the situation is that Morne did well during his last training spell with Spurs, and they have sent him back with a technical report and a plan for him to work on over the next few months before he goes back again.
“The club, including Gordon, have a long-term plan for Morne and we’re confident that he will have a very bright future overseas when the time is right.
“Morne will not be going now, there are no offers on the table, but unfortunately his representatives and a few hangers-on are trying to push their own agenda rather than looking after the future of the player himself.
“We’re very proud of the work that we do with young players here at SuperSport, and we have helped make sure that players like Kamohelo Mokotjo and Bongani Khumalo have gone on to play in the top leagues in the world and become multi-millionaires. “
Given the strict immigration rules in England, the Amajita man doesn’t qualify for a work permit in the UK due to his lack of Bafana Bafana caps, meaning that a move to the UK would not be possible at present anyway, though there is the possibility that he could go out on loan to another club in Europe.
