News reaching the Siya crew is that the transfer-listed Mandla Masango is unlikely to be leaving Kaizer Chiefs anytime soon.
As revealed in edition 880 of Soccer Laduma, a huge stumbling block for any move to take place has to do with the player’s big salary.
The Kwaggafontein-born star was linked with a swap deal to Mpumalanga Black Aces, in a move that would have seen Thabo Qalinge joining Chiefs.
However, Aces reportedly did not have the budget to pay for Masango’s significant salary, and the swap deal was put on ice.
Chiefs recently placed the 24-year-old on the transfer list after it was determined he had no further role to play at Naturena. Nonetheless, it now appears Masango will be potentially remaining at the club at least until his current deal expires in June 2015.
The jet-heeled right winger has really failed to make a mark during his seven seasons with the Amakhosi. In 2013/14 he made just four league appearances as Stuart Baxter juggled some of his other options on the right side for the club. The player, who has represented South Africa at U17, U20, U23 and full international level, appears to need a move to rejuvenate his still relatively fledgling career.
Yet at this stage, it appears no move will materialise unless Masango is willing to take a salary cut. It’s unclear at this point in time if Chiefs will decide to register him in their first team squad which will be announced on July 22.
The crew will monitor developments.
