Benni McCarthy is currently in Belgium with Second Division outfit, Sint Truidense VV, as he continues to work towards his UEFA coaching licence.
The former Bafana Bafana striker has been working on his progression as a coach for a while now, and previously told Soccer Laduma of his ambitions to be a head coach in the not so distant future.
Now, with the help of former Orlando Pirates assistant, Chris O’Loughlin, McCarthy is gaining experience of what it takes to work on the technical team of a football club. STVV currently lead the league by 10 points with seven games to go.
When asked about his trip to Belgium, Bafana’s top scorer of all time said, “I was visiting my mate Chris at STVV. Chris is the assistant manager there and he’s helping me out with getting my UEFA A Licence.”
Once McCarthy has acquired his UEFA A Licence, he will then go on to start preparing for his Pro Licence, the highest coaching qualification available, and the one needed in order to coach in the top-flight of a nation’s league system on a permanent basis.
