There is no African in the top 20, while only eight players are worth more than €100 million (R1.8 billion), according to the International Center for Sports Studies (CIES).
The football stats institute calculated the transfer values of the 100 most valuable footballers in Europe's top five leagues based on certain key indicators, including age and contract length.
Surprisingly, players such as Harry Kane and Anthony Martial are valued higher than the likes of Luis Suarez, Paul Pogba and Gareth Bale, while Messi and Neymar are the only two players valued at more than €200 million (R3.5 billion)
