Nigeria and Egypt became the first two African teams to book their spot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, Tunisia are the highest ranked CAF team in the latest FIFA rankings announced on Monday. The North Africans only need one point from their final qualifier to book their ticket to Russia, and moved up three places to 28th position overall.

Egypt follow in second spot on the continent and 30th overall after Mohamed Salah's last-minute penalty against Congo ensured them their first World Cup participation since 1990.

Bafana Bafana's opponents for the crucial qualifiers in November, Senegal, are the third-highest ranked African side in 32nd spot overall.

DR Congo (35) and Nigeria (41) complete Africa's top five, while 2017 AFCON champions Cameroon currently sit in sixth position and 42nd overall.

Herve Renard's Morocco can also book their ticket to Russia if they don't lose to Ivory Coast in their final qualifier, and are in seventh position on the continent and 48th overall.

Ghana will miss out on the World Cup for the first time since 2002. As a consequence, the Black Stars are only eighth spot in the CAF ranking, and 52nd overall.

Burkina Faso (55) and Ivory Coast (61) complete Africa's 10 highest ranked nations, but both dropped in the overall ranking.
