Deloitte, one of the largest accounting agencies worldwide, has released its annual Deloitte Football Money League report, in which the richest football teams in the world in 2021 were revealed.

The latest report stated that Europe's elite clubs are expected to miss out on more than €2 billion (R36.7 billion) in revenue by the end of the 2020/21 campaign due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

This year's top 20 clubs generated €8.2 billion (R150 billion), which is 12% less than the €9.3 billion (R171 billion) from last season, mainly due to losses in matchday and broadcast revenues.

FC Barcelona have remained at the top despite suffering the second-largest fall among all clubs on the list, with their revenue dropping from €840.8 million (R15 billion) to €715.1 million (R13.11 billion).

They are followed by rivals Real Madrid with a revenue of €714.9 million (R13.11 billion), while Bayern Munich climbed to third place with €634.1 million (R11.6 billion).

Premier League side United saw the biggest drop among Europe's top 20 clubs, with their revenue decreasing from €711.5 (R13 billion) million last year to €580.4 million (R10.6 billion).

However, they remained the highest-ranked English team, followed by Liverpool and Manchester City.

Note: The Money League compares the clubs' ability to generate revenue from matchday (including ticket and corporate hospitality sales), broadcast rights (including distributions from participation in domestic leagues, cups and European club competitions) and commercial sources (e.g. sponsorship, merchandising, stadium tours and other commercial operations), and ranks them on that basis.
