Spain have announced their squad for their upcoming clashes with 2014 FIFA World Cup winners Germany and runners-up Argentina, but several stars, including Chelsea's Alvaro Morata and a Manchester United midfielder as well as an FC Barcelona player, were snubbed.

The 2010 World Cup champions are still unbeaten since Julen Lopetegui took over after the 2016 UEFA European Championship, but their newfound strength will surely be tested against the two 2014 finalists.

The tricky tests are part of Spain's preparations for the tournament in Russia, for which they have been drawn in Group B, alongside Portugal, Iran and Morocco.

The Spain boss once again had to make a few tough calls, and has rung the changes, recalling Diego Costa and giving Chelsea's Marcos Alonso the first call-up of his senior career. His teammates Morata, Cesc Fabregas and Pedro, though, were not picked by Lopetegui.

Here is Spain's squad in full, according to the Spain national team's Twitter account:

Goalkeepers: Pepe Reina (Napoli), David de Gea (Manchester United), Kepa Arrizabalaga (Athletic Bilbao)

Defenders: Nacho, Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal (all Real Madrid), Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba (both FC Barcelona), Alvaro Odriozola (Real Sociedad), Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta (both Chelsea)

Midfielders: Andres Iniesta (FC Barcelona), Saul Niguez, Koke (Atletico Madrid), Isco, Marco Asensio (both Real Madrid), Thiago Alcantara (Bayern Munich), Daniel Parejo (Valencia), David Silva (Manchester City), Rodri (Villarreal)

Forwards: Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo), Rodrigo (Valencia), Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid), Lucas Vazquez (Real Madrid)

Spain first face Germany in Dusseldorf on 23 March, before hosting Argentina in the newly-built Wanda Metropolitano four days later.
