Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario has apologised to all the mothers whose children copied the "horrible" haircut he debuted at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
In 2002, many were worried about Ronaldo's injury record ahead of the World Cup held in South Korea and Japan, but the forward came up with a smart way to distract those discussing his fitness.
To stop people from only talking about his injuries before and during the tournament, the then-Inter Milan striker decided to rock a special hairstyle, one that he has since conceded was "horrible".
However, Ronaldo believes his plan was effective, and he has now jokingly apologised to all the mothers whose children mimicked his rather strange cut.
"It was horrible!" Ronaldo told Sports Illustrated.
"I apologise to all the mothers who saw their children get the same haircut.
"The journalists forgot about the injury.
"I saw my teammates and I asked them, 'Do you like it?' And they said, 'No, it's horrible! Cut this off'. But the journalists saw my haircut and forgot about the injury."
Ronaldo played hardly any football leading up to that World Cup, but stole the show with his eight goals that would help inspire his nation to triumph at the tournament.
