The 2002 FIFA World Cup winner was arrested in Paraguay on 5 March after he and his brother Roberto Assis were caught in possession of fake passports.

On 7 April, Ronaldinho and his brother were released on bail, but remain under house arrest in a hotel in the South American country after an investigation into their potential involvement in a money laundering scheme was opened.

After about 60 days in house arrest, the 2005 Ballon d'Or winner recently had an interview with Mundo Deportivo, during which he thanked everyone, in particular his former teammates, for their support.
