Former Real Madrid and Manchester City striker Robinho has reportedly been sentenced to nine years in jail for the rape of a girl in 2013.
According to Italian state news agency ANSA, the Brazilian was involved in a group sexual assault of a woman at a nightclub in Milan four years ago.
The former AC Milan star was reportedly one of six people involved in the incident with the then 22-year-old woman.
A court in Milan has sentenced the 33-year-old to nine years behind bars, and the player has already spoken out on his punishment.
Robinho, who is currently playing his football in Brazil, posted this picture on Instagram, with the caption reading (translated from Portuguese): "On the news involving striker Robinho, in a fact that occurred a few years ago, we clarified that he already defended himself against the charges, saying he had no participation in the episode. All legal steps are already being taken regarding this decision in the first instance.”
It has also been said that Robinho is unlikely to face prison time as local legislation states that no Brazilian citizen can be extradited to another country to face charges.
This, however, would not apply should the striker be detained in a different country.
