Joachim Low's side was relegated from the UEFA Nations League during the recent international break, capping off one of their worst years in history in 16th position in the FIFA rankings.
Meanwhile, Belgium has stayed at the top of the ranking despite losing their final game of the year 5-2 to Switzerland.
Roberto Martinez's men appear just a single point ahead of 2018 FIFA World Cup champions France, while Brazil complete the top three.
Croatia remained in fourth position ahead of England, while Portugal climbed above Uruguay into sixth place.
Switzerland, Spain and Denmark complete the top 10, while traditional football powerhouses Argentina follow in 11th, Netherlands in 14th and Italy in 18th spot.

Senegal have overtaken Tunisia as Africa's highest-ranked team, sitting in 23rd spot.
