International Friendly
Result: Spain 1-0 Bosnia-Herzegovina
Date: 18 November 2018
Venue: Estadio de Gran Canaria
Spain returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory over Bosnia- Herzegovina in an International friendly on Sunday evening.
Luis Enrique gave a Spain debut to centre-back Xavier Hermoso in a total of eight changes from their last encounter away to Croatia in the UEFA Nations League.
The Spaniards grew stronger as time went on, but still struggled to get any real openings with much of their chances being half-hearted and overcooked.
Spain ended the half strong, with Isco pulling a cut back from out wide before taking a low shot- their first on target.
It was left to Marco Asensio to try and crack the whip from a header, but the delivery from out wide was not properly executed as it went out into touch.
Minutes into the second half, La Roja made the game’s first substitution after Cesar Azpilicueta came on for Jonny at right-back.
A remarkable miss from close range found Alvaro Morata failing to score from an open net after Asensio’s shot drew a rebound on 58 minutes.
After numerous substitutions, the breakthrough eventually happened. A string of passes around the box allowed Isco to have a crack at goal, which was spilled safely into the path of Brais Mendez.
The striker from Celta Vigo, Mendez, certainly got a dream national team debut after finding the back of the net in the 78th minute with tap-in from close range.
Asensio tried to round off the encounter in added time with a second, but his curler from the right was comfortably palmed away as the 2010 World champions ended victorious.
