Isco Nets Hat-Trick As Spain Humiliate Argentina
International Friendly Report: Spain v Argentina 27 March 2018
Result: Spain 6-1 Argentina
Date: 27 March 2018
Venue: Wanda Metropolitano
Real Madrid star Isco bagged a hat-trick as Spain humiliated Argentina 6-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday evening.
Gonzalo Higuain missed the biggest chance of the opening 10 minutes for Argentina when he fired wide from close range following a cross.
The visitors were made to rue that after Diego Costa popped up at the opposite end for the opener from a ball through the middle by Andres Iniesta in the 12th minute, 1-0.
The goal subsequently led to an enforced change, with Argentine shot-stopper Sergio Romeo the injured party after a collision with Costa leading up to the opening strike.
Romero's replacement came in the form of Willy Caballero, now on the books of Premier League champions Chelsea, after the 20-minute mark.
That put more misery on Jorge Sampaoli’s men, who found themselves trailing by two goals after Isco tapped home following a cross by Marco Asensio on 26 minutes, 2-0.
The former Malaga man made up for his earlier miss from close range after being nicely set-up by Asensio.
The Albiceleste pulled a goal back moments before the break courtesy of a header from Nicolas Otamendi following a corner.
However, Spain's third goal came six minutes after the restart when Iago Aspas stretched the defence to play in Isco, who duly obliged for his brace.
It got better for the Spanish after Isco turned provider for Thiago Alcantara, who got in on the act with a cool finish from close range minutes later with the game firmly in the hosts' control.
At this stage, it seemed impossible to gauge a way back for Argentina, though they came close to another goal with the head of Otamendi, whose attempt came crashing off the right-hand post.
Aspas, who worked tirelessly all evening long, finally got his reward after firing home from a delivery straight down the middle.
A defensive mishap by the Argentine defence led Isco to complete his hat-trick following an interception by Aspas, who played the Los Blancos star through goal minutes later for his third and La Roja's sixth.
The defeat will be a bitter pill to swallow for Sampaoli, with a disgruntled home crowd sure to bay for their blood on their return home.
