International Friendly
Result: Scotland 0-4 Belgium
Date: 07 September 2018
Venue: Hampden Park
Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to net a brace as Belgium thrashed Scotland 4-0 in an international friendly at Hampden Park on Friday evening.
The Red Devils were without the services of Marouane Fellaini and Christian Benteke, who both picked up knocks before the encounter.
Roberto Martinez still named a strong side for the friendly, including the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens in the attack.
After a quiet start to the clash, the visitors broke the deadlock after 28 minutes, with Lukaku turning home Thorgan Hazard's low cross in the box.
The home side, meanwhile, struggled to mount any serious attempts at Thibaut Courtois' goal for most of the opening 45 minutes.
Belgium made a host of changes at the start of the second half, as the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Michy Batshuayi, Yannick Carrasco and Thomas Meunier were introduced.
Two minutes into the second half, the Belgians doubled their advantage through Eden Hazard, who sent a stinging effort past Craig Gordon.
The third goal arrived in the 53rd minute as Eden Hazard turned provider to pick out an un-marked Batshuayi, who fired home with a left-footed strike.
Batshuayi was not done as the striker netted his second and Belgium's fourth on the hour mark with a clinical finish into the bottom corner.
The second half proved no different for Scotland, although they did managed to force a save out of Courtois, with Steven Naismith failing to beat the shot-stopper from point-blank range.
Roberto Martinez's charges were in control for the remainder of the half but were unable to carve out another serious opening in the final third.
The Red Devils will take on Iceland in their opening UEFA Nations League clash next week.
