Ronaldo On Target As Portugal Beat Belgium
Result: Portugal 2-1 Belgium
Date: 29 March 2016
Venue: Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa
Cristiano Ronaldo headed home for Portugal as they edged out Belgium 2-1 in an International Friendly clash on Tuesday night.
In the first 15 minutes Belgium goalkeeper Thibault Courtois was a busy man as he kept the scores level with some world class saves. The Chelsea gloveman did well to keep out Mario's attempt after he was played in by Ronaldo. The ball was parried towards Adrien Silva, but Courtois stopped his shot too.
A few minutes later Courtois made two more saves. Nani produced a powerful header which the former Atletico goalkeeper kept out brilliantly, before keeping out Pereira's headed effort with another sensational stop.
However, Portugal found their opening goal nonetheless in the 20th minute. Gomes slipped in a ball from the left to find Nani who powered into the Belgium box before calmly slotting past Courtois.
The hosts' lead was then doubled just before the break. Belgium's defence went to sleep, allowing Mario to run into space on the left and pick out an unmarked Ronaldo who headed home with power.
Belgium responded after the hour mark to reduce the deficit. In only his second game for his country Jordan Lukaku drove down the left at pace and crossed for his brother Romelu to head home with aplomb.
Portugal had chances to extend their lead further in the last 20 minutes but failed to convert them.
