International Friendly
Result: Portugal 5-0 Gibraltar
Date: 1 September 2016
Venue: Estádio do Bessa Século XXI
Portugal put five goals past Gibraltar on Thursday in a 5-0 international friendly victory in Porto.
The hosts looked the stronger side from the get-go and came close to taking the lead in the 19th minute when Joao Mario received the ball on the edge of the box, only to send his shot narrowly over.
In the 27th minute the breakthrough arrived. After a poorly cleared corner kick the ball fell for Bruno Alves who sent it back into the box where Nani was on hand to volley home for his 22nd international goal.
Portugal continued to dominate the clash and took their 1-0 lead into the break without truly being threatened by Gibraltar.
Only 10 minutes into the second half Nani completed his brace to double Portugal's lead. A short corner saw Andre Silva cross towards the skipper who glanced the ball home.
It was 3-0 to the hosts in the 73rd minute as Cancelo marked his debut appearance with a goal. Silva set up the goal yet again and Cancelo produced a stunning strike.
Bernardo Silva joined in on the action three minutes later to make it 4-0. His shot on goal was weak but the Gibraltar goalkeeper let it slip underneath him to cross the line.
The goal-scorer turned provider a few minutes later to set up Pepe who simply cushioned the ball into the back of the net after Silva's strong delivery, to complete a 5-0 rout.
