Congo DR Ease Past Nigeria

International Friendly

Result: Nigeria 0-2 Congo DR

Date: 08 October 2015

Venue: Stade de la Cité de l'Oie

Goals from Dieumerci Mbokani and Jordan Nkololo handed Congo DR a 2-0 win over Nigeria in an international friendly on Thursday evening.

Both sides named strong line-ups, with the Nigerians being captain by in-form Ahmed Musa, while Crystal Palace forward Yannick Bolasie started for the Leopards.

The visitors broke the deadlock after just seven minutes courtesy of a strike Mbokani, who controlled well, before firing a low left-footed effort into the bottom corner.

The Super Eagles pushed a for an equaliser but Congolese shot-stopper, Parfait Mandanda, was on hand to deny Odion Ighalo and Igbonu after 11 minutes.

Nigeria were presented with a chance to level matters midway through the opening half but Eddy Onazi failed to hit the target, before Mikel fired the rebound wide.

DRC then doubled their advantage in the 30th minute when Jordan Nkololo tapped home at Carl Ikeme's near post, after getting on the end of a cross from the right flank.

Mandanda came to Congo's rescue just before the halftime break, as the goalkeeper pulled off a fine save to keep out Onazi's powerful free-kick.

Yannick Bolasie nearly added a third for the Leopards in the 58th minute but his long range effort sailed just wide of the upright.

Sunday Oliseh's side continued to push for the first goal and went close in the 68th minute when Emmanuel Emenike's header sailed just wide of the upright.

Mandanda ensured that he and Congo kept a clean sheet, as he pulled off a fine stop to keep out to deny Alex Iwobi in the 88th minute.
