Man Utd Winger Steers England To Victory
International Friendly Report: Netherlands v England 23 March 2018
Result: Netherlands 0-1 England
Date: 23 March 2018
Venue: Amsterdam Arena
Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard scored the only goal of the game as England defeated Netherlands 1-0 in an international friendly on Friday evening.
The visitors enjoyed a positive start to the encounter, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lingard going close in the opening 15 minutes.
Gareth Southgate's men continued to push for an opener and they almost found one in the 32nd minute when Jordan Henderson headed wide following a cross from Keiran Trippier.
The Netherlands, meanwhile, struggled to get going in the first half and failed to register any serious attempts at Jordan Pickford's goal.
That proved to be the trend for the rest of half as the sides went into the halftime break scoreless.
The Three Lions came out firing in the second half and eventually broke the deadlock in the 59th minute courtesy of a composed finish from Lingard.
Gareth Southgate opted for a few changes with 20 minutes remaining as Jamie Vardy, Dele Alli, Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young were introduced.
England nearly doubled their lead on 80 minutes but Trippier's close-range strike was palmed away by Zoet as the clash ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors.
