Schweinsteiger Receives Winning Germany Farewell

Germany gave Bastian Schweinsteiger a fitting farewell on Wednesday as they beat Finland 2-0 in a friendly encounter.
After a relatively slow opening, the hosts increased their pace in the 25th minute, putting together a string of incisive passes which led to a square ball across the face of goal that was cleared off the line.
Finland narrowly escaped netting an opening goal four minutes later. Paulus Arajuuri was in position to clear a cross but horribly mishit it and sent the ball rattling off his own woodwork.
The visitors' disciplined defensive effort saw them maintain level pegging with Joachim Low's men at the break.
After the interval, Finland had a great chance to get themselves in front. Jere Uronen set up the opportunity with a cross but Teemu Pukki just couldn't connect with it.
The breakthrough arrived at the other end of the pitch as Max Meyer opened the scoring. Mario Gotze delivered the ball perfectly for Meyer to slot home his first international goal.
Germany consolidated their lead in the 77th minute as Mesut Ozil found the back of the net. The Arsenal man's cross came off Arajuuri and in off the far post for a 2-0 victory.
