France Cruise Past Italy

International Friendly

Result: France 3-1 Italy

Date: 01 May 2018

Venue: Allianz Riviera

Antoine Griezmann and a couple of FC Barcelona stars were on target as France recorded a 3-1 win over Italy in an international friendly on Friday evening.

The home side got off to a good start as they broke the deadlock after nine minutes when Samuel Umtiti slotted home from close after Kylian Mbappe's initial effort had been saved by Salvatore Sirigu.

The lead was almost doubled on 21 minutes when N'Golo Kante rattled the upright with a strike from distance, before Mbappe forced Sirigu into another save a minute later.

Les Bleus were awarded a penalty on 28 minutes when Lucas Hernandez was brought to the ground. Antoine Griezmann stepped and converted the spot-kick, 2-0.

Italy did not sit back as they halved the deficit after 36 minutes, with Leonardo Bonucci tapping home from close range after a free-kick from Mario Balotelli was pushed back into the danger zone.

The final 10 minutes of the first half was a lively affair, although neither side could to the scoreline before the break.

Three minutes into the second half, the French nearly added a third goal as Ousmane Dembele hit the crossbar with a powerful strike from the edge of the box.

Dembele was not to be denied in the 63rd minute, though, as the Barcelona forward found the top corner with a fine curling strike.

The flow of the game was interrupted after 70 minutes as both coaches opted for a number of changes.

As a result, chances were hard to come by for both sides in the final 10 minutes of the half as France ran out convincing winners on the night.
