Giroud Brace Sinks Denmark

International friendly

Result: Denmark 1-2 France

Date: 11 October 2015

Venue: Parken

Olivier Giroud bagged a brace to help France earn a 2-1 win over Denmark in an international friendly on Sunday evening.

The visitors broke the deadlock after just four minutes when Giroud latched onto a fine pass from Anthony Martial, before firing a low effort past Kasper Schmeichel.

Giroud bagged his and France's second goal two minutes later, as the Arsenal forward volleyed home from six-yards out, after his initial effort had been saved.

Denmark came close to reducing the deficit in the 28th minute but Steve Mandanda was on hand to keep out Christian Eriksen's effort from distance.

The French were looking to add to their advantage and went close in the 30th minute when Raphael Varane's header sailed just wide of the upright.

Both sides made changes at the start of the second, as Kurt Zouma was introduced by France, while Denmark brought on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Martial came close to getting his name on the score-sheet in the 54th minute, but the Manchester United forward fired just over the crossbar from the edge of the area.

Schmeichel then came to Denmark's rescue in the 62nd minute, when Martial showed great pace to lose his marker, before forcing the Danish shot-stopper into a save at the near post.

Giroud squandered a chance to claim his hat-trick a few minutes later, as the striker was through on goal with only Schmeichel to beat, however his attempted lob was saved by the goalkeeper.

The visitors continue to search for their first goal of the encounter and close to reducing the deficit after 70 minutes but Mandanda pulled off a fine save to keep deny Poulsen from close range.

Denmark eventually pulled one back in the first minute of stoppage time when  Erik Sviatchenko curled one past Mandanda from the edge of the area.

However, that goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation, as Le Blues held on for the victory.
