Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak recently announced the arrival of 37-year-old Ghanaian star Sulley Muntari, who enjoyed a long and successful time in Europe representing clubs such as Udinese, Portsmouth, Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Interestingly, the midfielder has never before played professionally on the African continent, having joined Italian side Udinese after impressing at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship in Argentina.
The ex-Premier League star has not been contracted to a club since his short stint at Albacete in Spain in 2019, but is now set to feature in his native Ghana's top division.

In returning to his roots, Muntari joins a long list of players who went back to Africa following short or long spells outside of the continent, including his former international colleague Asamoah Gyan, who signed for Legon Cities in 2020.
Egypt icon Mido and Cameroon legend Roger Milla enjoyed similar stories, as did Bafana Bafana's all-time leading goalscorer Benni McCarthy, who joined Orlando Pirates in 2011 following a spell at West Ham United in England.

Muntari, coincidentally, was strongly linked with a move to South Africa in 2021, when he was believed to be interested in joining Kaizer Chiefs.
