"Evergrande Stadium will become a new world-class landmark comparable to the Sydney Opera House (in Australia) and Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and an important symbol of Chinese football to the world," he said, as quoted by ESPN.
"We hope the stadium will host the opening ceremony of the 2023 Asian Cup."
The Lotus concept beat seven other design submissions from the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States.
The stadium will boast 168 VIP boxes and 16 VVIP boxes, while the Evergrande conglomerate, who took over the Guangzhou club in 2010, has also announced plans to construct at least two more arenas with capacities of at least 80 000 in China.
