A footballer plying his trade in Europe has tragically died after collapsing during a recent game.
According to The Sun, a Greek footballer by the name of Alexandros Lampis passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest on Wednesday.
As reported by the British publication, the player was unable to be resuscitated as there was no defibrillator or ambulance at the stadium.
The 21-year-old was playing for third division side Ilioupoli at the First Municipal Stadium in Athens when tragedy struck, and it is said that an ambulance took 20 minutes to arrive on the scene.
A statement on the club's website read: "Our Aleko, our friend, our brother, you left so unjustly.
"The whole team, the whole city is mourning today.
"The words do not come out... only an unbearable pain and a knot in the stomach. Have a good trip Alecara."
