Italy got their campaign off to a great start by seeing off Australia on Sunday afternoon.
Samatha Kerr gave the Australians the lead on 22 minutes , but were pegged back by Barbara Boanansea's equaliser in the 56th minute.
Boanansea proved to be the savior yet again as he completed her brace in the fifth minute of time added on to hand Italy their first World Cup win in 20 years.
Brazil 3-0 Jamaica
One of the tournament favourites, Brazil, proved too strong for Jamaica as they registered a 3-0 win on Sunday afternoon.
While the influential Marta was missing through injury, Christine stole the show by netting a hat-trick to steer the South Americans to victory.
England 2-1 Scotland
England made a positive start to their Group D campaign after edging Scotland, -1 on Sunday evening at Allianz Riviera Stadium.
England opened the scoring in the 14th minute through a penalty converted by Nikita Parris before Ellen White doubled their lead five minutes before the break.
Claire Emslie pulled a goal back for Scotland with 11 minutes remaining but the debutants could not find the equaliser.
