Club World Cup final
Teams: Real Madrid 1-0 Gremio
Date: 16 December 2017
Venue: Sheikh Zayed Sports City
Real Madrid have won the FIFA Club World Cup title for the second straight year, after defeating Gremio 1-0 thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo's superb free-kick.
Los Blancos enjoyed a lot of possession in the opening stages of the first half, but they could not carve out clear-cut chances against a stubborn Gremio defence.
Real had to wait until the 21st minute for a couple of openings, as Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema were denied by goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe.
Ronaldo went close on 39 minutes as his free-kick from 30-yards out sailed just over Grohe's crossbar.
That proved to be the final chance of the half, as Real and Gremio went into the break with the score deadlocked at 0-0.
Eight minutes into the second half, Los Blancos broke the deadlock as Ronaldo found the back of the net with a well-struck free-kick.
Real nearly bagged a second goal in the 65th minute, but Luka Modric's long range effort was denied by the upright.
With 15 minutes remaining, Zinedine Zidane opted to withdraw Isco for Lucas, while Gareth Bale repalced Benzema a few minutes later.
Los Blancos pushed for more goals in the closing stages as Ronaldo and Bale were denied by Grohe.
Nevertheless, the score remained 1-0 at the full-time whistle as Los Blancos successfully defend the Club World Cup.
