World football governing body FIFA has announced a big change to their Best Men's Player award, an accolade that was last won by Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since the format change in 2016, Los Blancos forward Ronaldo has been crowned The Best FIFA Men's Player twice.
There were 23 candidates for the award each of the past two times it was handed out, but FIFA have now formally stated that the candidates list will be reduced to just 10 spots. This year's nominee will be announced on 23 July, a week after the 2018 FIFA World Cup finishes.
The 10 nominees will be selected by a panel of experts that includes Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario, ex-England boss Fabio Capello and former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.
Fans, managers, and national team captains will also be allowed their have their say, along with about 200 handpicked journalists.
The winner of the award will be announced on 24 September in London.
