Ex-PSG Star To Make Surprise Africa Move?

Former Paris Saint-Germain and France midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa has been linked with a move to the African continent.

According to Foot Mercato, the former France international is currently on the lookout for a new club after leaving Bordeaux at the end of the previous campaign.

The 34-year-old is currently a free agent, having represented four different clubs over the past three years – PSG, Stade Rennes, Real Valladolid and Bordeaux.

It is suggested that a number of teams are chasing his services, with interest reportedly coming from Spain, Italy and Turkey.

To add to that, though, the former Newcastle United playmaker is also believed to be wanted by Tunisian giants Esperance Tunis, whose president Hamdi Meddeb is a big admirer of the player.

The claims are strengthened by the fact that Ben Arfa is a fan of the club in the country in which he holds citizenship, according to Transfermarkt.

It is, however, noted that the midfielder would prefer to remain in Europe, with Lille being mentioned as a club that he wishes to join.

Throughout his career, Ben Arfa has been viewed as a footballer with immense talent but little discipline, which has perhaps led to him becoming something of a journeyman.

Despite those shortcomings, the skilful dribbler has been hailed as one of the most gifted players in the world by some former colleagues, with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema once saying: "I won't beat around the bush: Ben Arfa has as much quality as Messi."
